Weekend Sporting Events Canceled
The Oberlin at Quinter basketball games scheduled for February 3 have been canceled due to the predicted winter storm. The Southwest, NE invitational wrestling tournament in Bartley NE on Saturday has been tentatively canceled as well.
Thunderhawk Girls Down Oberlin
The Oberlin-DCHS girls basketball streak continued its struggles Tuesday night, Jan. 31, as they fell to Wheatland-Grinnell on the road. The Red Devils were able to post only four points in the first half, trailing 16-4 at halftime. The Thunderhakws also outscored the Red Devils 28-13 in the second half, making the final score Wheatland-Grinnell 40, Oberlin 17. That marked the seventh loss in the last eight games for the Red Devils. Brooke Ostmeyer and Megan Heier led the Thunderhawks with eight points each. For the Red Devils, Miki Dorshorst had 10 points. The Red Devil girls fall to 3-10 on the year.
Red Devil Boys Earn Road Win
The Oberlin-DCHS boys basketball team was able to get its second win in three games Tuesday night, Jan. 31. This one came on the road against the Thunderhawks of Wheatland-Grinnell. Oberlin took a 25-21 lead into halftime, and then expanded on it in the second half. An offensive attack that saw seven different Red Devils score posted 24 second half points en route to a 49-33 victory. For Wheatland-Grinnell, Ty Kaiser led the way with 13 points. Will Bixenman had 11 points in the first half, but was shut out in the second half by the outstanding defensive effort from Tyler Shields. Dalton Jones led the Red Devils with 22 points and Zach May added 13. The Red Devil boys improve to 6-7 on the year.
