Snowstorm Hammers Colorado

DENVER (AP) - A powerful winter storm moving across Colorado has dumped more than a foot of snow in some areas. The storm has prompted a blizzard warning for the northeast, forced flight cancellations and school closures, and calls from highway officials to slow down on icy roadways. The National Weather Service says that by 3:30 a.m., six inches had fallen on downtown Denver and up to 15 inches in the foothills west of the city. Boulder and some areas just north of Colorado Springs were struggling with 10 inches of snow.

    

Boulder Man Found Guilty Of Shooting New Hampshire Football Player

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - A jury has convicted a man of fatally shooting a University of New Hampshire football player in Boulder. Kevin McGregor was found guilty yesterday of shooting Todd Walker in a botched robbery attempt near the University of Colorado last year. The 23-year-old was then immediately sentenced to life without parole. The Daily Camera reports the jury found him guilty of first-degree murder, felony murder, and other crimes.

    

Small Jet Runs Off Pueblo Airport Runway

PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) - A small passenger jet has run off the runway while taking off from the Pueblo airport, but none of the 10 people aboard was reported hurt. The FAA said the Learjet 35 was substantially damaged in the mishap at about 8:00 last night. The runway was closed while crews removed the plane.

    

Metropolitan State College Asking Legislature To Change name

DENVER (AP) - Metropolitan State College is asking the Legislature to change its name to Metropolitan State University of Denver. The college's board voted 6-3 yesterday in favor of the change. Last year, Metro asked the Legislature to change the name to Denver State University. It withdrew the request after University of Denver officials said it was too similar to their name. Metro has 24,000 students.
